Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
